What the Stone Tomato Head in 'Fornite' Could Mean for Season 6

Strange things are starting to happen on the island.

The big story this past weekend in the world of Fortnite: Battle Royale was the appearance of a tomato head statute in Tomato Town, replacing the actual tomato head that disappeared at the end of season 4 of the game.

While Fortnite data miners theorized for some time that that some sort of tomato statute might reappear in the game, the actual event on Sunday afternoon has players wondering how it will affect the rest of this fifth season of Fornite, which reportedly ends on September 25.

If you’re just catching up to the news, here’s a refresher: On Saturday, a Rift appeared on the top of Uncle Pete’s Pizza Pit in Tomato Town, the same spot where a large Tomato Head stood until the end of Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 4 before disappearing into a Rift. Data miners discovered a bit of game code about the event, and when the time came, the Rift began to grow. Then, “a wild tomatohead has appeared!,” commented one Redditor:

The first theory about this stony tomatohead that the statue went into another dimension, hence the “Worlds Collide” theme of Season 5, and someone in another dimension created this smaller Tomato Head. Others insist the brownish color of the returned Tomato Head means it was somehow burnt to a crisp in another world — although this doesn’t explain the reduction in size.

A third theory suggests the Tomato Head appeared in Fortnite: Save the World, the other version of the game requiring players to pay for the content. One Reddit user posted an image of gnomes in Save the World surrounding a smaller Tomato Head, which could explain why a Rift showed up in this world Saturday above Uncle Pete’s Pizzeria.

After the event, data miners did another sweep of the files for Fortnite: Battle Royale and discovered another event simply called “Tomato Event,” which is set to take place on August 27 at the same time this past Sunday’s event took place: 2 p.m. Eastern.

As the second half of Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 5 is underway, Epic Games appears to be putting in motion events to bring the season to a close and start Season 6. Tuesday’s v5.30 update should have clues on what’s next for players.

Tuesday is also the date of another event. Data miners discovered on August 21, the Rift in the sky would disappear. It’s already become smaller in the past week, and when it disappears, it could mean the sign of something making its way through it.
