There's an 'Ant-Man 3' Clue Hidden Somewhere in 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'
Ever since Scott Lang returned from the Quantum Realm at the end of the first Ant-Man movie, the bizarre microcosmic universe has raised tons of questions about how it might reshape the Marvel Cinematic Universe through time travel or alternate dimensions in Avengers 4. But now, even though a second Ant-Man sequel hasn’t been confirmed just yet, a Marvel Studios producer has hinted that a third film might plunge even deeper into the Quantum Realm to explore a sentient civilization.
ComicBook.com published an article on Sunday analyzing comments made by Marvel Studios producer Stephen Broussard during a recent episode of the Empire Film Podcast.
“If you look at the right moment and freeze the DVD in a certain place,” Broussard teased, “maybe you’ll see something else as well that could tip a hat to where the story could go?”
It’s tough to say exactly what he’s talking about, but there’s some clue hidden in the background of the Quantum Realm that probably implies that there’s some kind of civilization living down there. Considering how trippy the visuals are whenever we see inside the Quantum Realm, who knows exactly where this teaser is hiding?
“We talk a lot about the Quantum Realm and there would be perhaps more opportunity to go down there,” Broussard also said of loose plans for the next Ant-Man film. “Maybe there’s more down there than we realized? Clearly, Janet’s been up to something and has different clothes on and some weapons. Where did those come from?”
When Janet Van Dyne initially becomes trapped in the Quantum Realm, she had just her Wasp suit. But when Hank Pym finds her during Ant-Man and the Wasp, she has more clothing and some kind of spear weapon. Where would she get such things other than from some alien people?
All of this corroborates information teased in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: The Art of the Movie, an art book featuring both used and unused concept art for the movie. The book reveals that Janet Van Dyne’s present-day costume was specifically designed to imply that she encountered an alien civilization.
The first Ant-Man laid the groundwork for focusing on the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp, and, in much the same way, Ant-Man and the Wasp also helped lay the foundation for a deeper mine of the Quantum Realm in the next movie. Will Marvel call it Ant-Man and the Wasp 2? Ant-Man 2? *Ant-Man and the Wasp and Stature?
Considering that Scott Lang is stuck in the Quantum Realm after the Ant-Man and the Wasp post-credits scene, maybe this alien civilization will help him in the same way they did Janet? In that sense, this tease that the Quantum Realm holds an entire alien civilization could have a huge impact on Avengers 4 as well. Maybe that’s where Captain Marvel has been hiding all this time?
Captain Marvel will be released March 8, 2019 and Avengers 4 will be released on May 3, 2019.
