The franchise is back. And what took so long? After a $500 million opening weekend, it’s stunning it’s only been announced now.

Variety is reporting that a sequel to Jurassic World has been greenlit and set for release on June 22, 2018. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have signed on to return. Also returning will be director Colin Trevorrow and screenwriter Derek Connolly, both of whom will be working on the script.

The real question will be whether or not the new film takes the next step in its escalation — Jurassic Galaxy? Jurassic Universe? Jurassic Reality? — or will it simply be Jurassic World 2?

On Wednesday, Jurassic World became the third-highest grossing film of all time. Avatar, Titanic, and Jurassic World are now in the top three. Shockingly, Jurassic World has yet to open in Japan (it will premiere there on August 5), so Jurassic World could either become number two, and take over Titanic, or it will just be really, really planted at number three.
