Venom Eats a Dude's Face and Says "Turd" in the New Movie Trailer

by James Grebey

If the first trailer for Venom made fans worry that there wasn’t actually going to be much of the titular antihero in the movie, the just-released third trailer completely puts those fears to bed. We see Tom Hardy transform into Venom, both partially and completely, as he kicks ass and threatens to bite people’s faces off. Also, Venom says “turd,” which is something I wasn’t sure I needed to hear but now I can’t imagine what life was like prior.

Sony dropped the trailer on Tuesday morning, and it reveals much more of the plot than the first two trailers. This Spider-Man spin-off (that does not appear to involve Spider-Man in any way) follows Hardy’s Eddie Brock, a journalist who tries to uncover a sinister plot by Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) to infect people with Symbiotes. Only problem is, Eddie gets infected himself.

The Venom Symbiote is a monster, and it appears there’s going to be quite a bit of psychological and body horror as Eddie grapples with his new, infected reality. But, the trailer seems to indicated that Eddie and Venom will be able to work together well enough to battle — and, it seems, issue some really strange threats.

“We will eat both of your arms, and then both of your legs, and then we will eat your face right off of your head,” Venom tells what looks like a would-be robber at the end of the trailer. “You will be this armless, legless, faceless thing, won’t you? Rolling down the street… like a turd… in the wind.”

Venom is rated R.

Venom opens on October 5, 2018.
