Stan Lee Did a Legitimate Cameo in a DC Movie

"This is a DC movie? I gotta get outta here!"

Stan Lee makes a cameo appearance in pretty much every single Marvel movie, and for good reason, since the co-creator of Spider-Man, the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and more is in many ways Marvel’s public face. He never did any work for rival DC Comics, though, which explains why Lee has never made a cameo in a DC movie… until now.

Lee makes his DC debut in Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, which opens on July 27. The long-running Cartoon Network series’ first big-screen adventure is chock-full of meta-humor that puts Deadpool to shame, as it’s all about making a blockbuster superhero movie and skewering the entire industry/genre in the process.

Lee’s cameo occurs when the Teen Titans travel to the Warner Bros. studio lot. As they’re gazing in awe at all the A-list superheroes, a man in the background with very recognizable white hair and a mustache begins mugging at the camera. After the Titans leave, he runs up and addresses the camera.

It’s Lee, voiced by himself, announcing that he’s “doing my super-subtle cameo.”

However, once he learns he isn’t cameoing in a Marvel movie, Lee bolts.

“This is a DC movie? I gotta get outta here!” Lee says, as the scene ends.

It’s not the last time Lee pops up, though. During the film’s action-packed climax, Lee returns, briefly. He doesn’t care that it’s a DC movie anymore, he just loves doing cameos too much.

Don’t expect that kumbaya attitude to last, though. Lee’s probably not going to be making a cameo appearance in Aquaman. He just was game to lend his voice for a very self-aware joke in an especially meta superhero movie.

Teen Titans Go! to the Movies opens on July 27.
