The Next ‘Pokémon GO’ Community Day Event Is All About Squirtle
Will the Squirtle Squad make an appearance?
Grab your sunglasses and prepare to squad up. The next Pokémon GO Community Day is starting soon, and it will feature first-generation starter favorite Squirtle. It’s the next event following Safari Zone in Dortmund, Germany, which took place from June 30 to July 1.
On July 8, Squirtle will be spawning at much higher rates from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern. As with previous events, there are bonuses to sweeten the deal. Lures will last for three hours, and eggs will only require one-fourth of the usual distance to hatch. Keep in mind that any eggs placed in incubators before the event won’t receive the reduced distance bonus, according to GOHUB, so if you want to take advantage of the reduced distance, wait until the event.
If you’ve participated in a Community Day event before, then you know the drill. Niantic has not announced Shiny variations for the three Squirtle evolutions (Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise), but the models were already mined in-game, and they will almost definitely be available once Community Day goes live.
Players who capture a Squirtle and evolve it all the way to a Blastoise during Community Day will also be rewarded with an exclusive move, a special technique that cannot be acquired any other time. Niantic hasn’t revealed what the exclusive move is, but it’ll probably be Hydro Cannon. Blastoise’s iconic attack was quietly added in a previous patch but not yet implemented.
Niantic tweeted out a teaser with Squirtle eyeing a pair of sunglasses. Does that mean the Squirtle Squad will somehow make an appearance?
Probably not, but even so, the advice in that tweet is very sensible. Catch Pokémon responsibly, people! Bring plenty of sunblock and water.
Disregard the suggestion to “maybe bring some sunglasses” in the above tweet. When catching Squirtle, sunglasses are a must, even more so than the sunblock and water. Doing otherwise will make you an enemy of Squirtle Squad.
