There are some scary moments in Game of Thrones, but White Walkers are nothing compared to the terrors that lurk in Nightflyers, a Syfy adaptation of a novella George R. R. Martin wrote long before the first book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series ever came out. A Teaser trailer for the upcoming series reveals that it has a creepy kid, which is a hallmark of good horror.
The 30-second teaser trailer, which Syfy released on Tuesday, is a strobing blur of chaotic scenes about a dark spaceship that’s in some horrible sort of trouble. Trying these brief flashes together is a very creepy little girl who is saying some very creepy things.
“Kill. Hate. Burn. Time. Death,” the girl says, coldly, as the trailer rapidly cuts to scenes where exactly those sort of grim things appear to be happening to the crew.
Nightflyers, which Martin called a “haunted house story on a starship” and likened to “Psycho in space”, follows a crew of scientists exploring the limits of our solar system in their ship, The Nightflyer. They encounter something — or someone — terrible, and it leads to doubt, infighting, death, and all sorts of horror. It sounds like The Terror, which recently aired on AMC, only set in space in the future rather than the Arctic north in the early 1800s.
Syfy has yet to announce a specific premiere date for Nightflyers, but fear not — at least, not yet. The trailer states that it will come out “this fall,” which is still well before the final season of Game of Thrones premieres on HBO.
