Bethesda Shuts Down a Big Fear About 'Elder Scrolls 6'

Long live single-player games!

Bethesda had a killer show at E3 earlier in June, but the company did cause a bit of consternation among gamers when it announced Fallout 76 would be an online game. That concern won’t be the case with its other major game announced at the show, The Elder Scrolls VI.

Pete Hines, VP of marketing at Bethesda Softworks, spoke with FZ at E3 about the games shown at the press event. In particular, Hines pointed out that although the new Fallout game will be online, Bethesda will continue to focus on single-player games such as Elder Scrolls VI and another game revealed at the event called Starfield.

“We are going to do a game that’s just single-player next time around, and, yes, we are going to get to Elder Scrolls VI,” he said in the interview.

Fans of the Fallout series were a bit confused when Fallout 76 was said to be an online game. Considering Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax, already developed The Elder Scrolls Online, an MMORPG taking place in Tamriel, some gamers expected the new Fallout game to be the same. Studio director Todd Howard, who presented the new game, reassured players that multiplayer is optional and Fallout 76 can be played alone.

The Elder Scrolls VI is still a ways off from being completed. Once Fallout 76 is out on Nov. 14, 2018, developers at Bethesda will spread themselves out to finish work on the new Elder Scrolls game as well as the company’s brand new IP, Starfield.

At Bethesda’s E3 press conference, a short trailer for Elder Scrolls VI was shown. That did not deter fans of the game who dissected every frame in order to figure out the most likely location for the game. Also, like with Starfield, there is a question on whether it will come out for the current generation of consoles or will it appear on the next generation hardware.
