'Super Smash Bros. Switch' Roster: Solid Snake Rumored to Rejoin the Lineup
This game can't come soon enough.
by Jake KleinmanThe wait is almost over. Nintendo is set to reveal the latest version of Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Switch at E3 2018 next week after teasing the game earlier this year.
Surprisingly, the company’s done a pretty good job of keeping all the details about the highly-anticipated fighting game under wraps, but that hasn’t stopped a few details from leaking out. The big question on everyone’s mind, of course, is which characters Super Smash Bros. will add to the roster this time around, and thanks to a recent Reddit post we may have one more name to add to the list.
According to Reddit user u/DasVergeben, Nintendo is bringing back Solid Snake. The popular character from Konami’s Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid series appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii system. His arsenal of controlled explosives and high-tech gadgets added an interesting element to the typically cartoony gameplay. On a personal note, he was also one of my favorite characters to play as (that remote-controlled rocket launcher was awesome).
Solid Snake was notably absent from Super Smash Bros. Wii U, presumably because Nintendo couldn’t make the crossover deal happen again (or just didn’t want to). Now he could be making his return, at least according to u/DasVergeben’s sources.
To be fair, the Reddit leaker has a mixed track record. He readily admits that he’s gotten things wrong in the past, but he’s been accurate just as often. u/DasVergeben correctly predicted that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were coming to Injustice 2, and he sparked the rumors of a Star Fox racing game that had steadily been gaining momentum.
Beyond Solid Snake, u/DasVergeben previously predicted two other additions to the Super Smash Bros. Switch roster: Ridley from the Metroid games, and Simon Belmont from the Castlevania series. Again, you should take these leaks with a grain of salt, but thankfully we’ll all know a lot more about Nintendo’s new fighting game very soon.
