Where is Drax? Who is Drax? Better yet: Why is Drax? All these questions about the most brutish member of the Guardians of the Galaxy will be revealed in 2019’s Avengers 4, as actor Dave Bautista has revealed he will return in the next epic Marvel movie. At least, he hopes so.
In an interview with Collider, Bautista said that “I already filmed [Avengers] 3 and 4, so I hope they won’t be pissed,” referring to Marvel Studios. “If they are I’m gonna get an earful.”
At the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos used the power of the Infinity Stones to wipe half the universe out of existence. Among the many victims — including Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Vision, and Scarlet Witch — were most of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Only Rocket and Nebula were spared from Thanos’s wrath, but Star-Lord? Groot? Drax? All dust, at least for now.
“I don’t know how it’s gonna pan out,” Bautista admits, revealing that reshoots for Avengers 4 will begin in September which could lead to a dramatic change in the story. “I thought I knew the ending of the second film, but apparently we’re supposed to reshoot a bunch of stuff. It’s so funny because I heard from other actors the script they read wasn’t at all what they made it to film.”
In addition to Avengers 4, Bautista also said he’s slated for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, the third installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy series set for release in 2020. Director James Gunn is writing the screenplay and will return to helm the next adventure for Marvel’s resident A-holes, though it’s unknown exactly how Infinity War will change the Guardians as Marvel fans know them.
Avengers 4 will be released in theaters on May 5, 2019.
