'Fortnite' Eye of the Storm Tracker Backpack: How and Why to Get It

A new update came to Fortnite Tuesday. Not only did it include new jetpacks as part of a limited time mode, but there was also a new kind of item that Epic Games didn’t intend to be part of the update.

Over on the Fortnite subreddit, one Reddit user found a new item during a game Tuesday. The player found an item called the “Eye of the Storm Tracker,” which has a description that says, “tracks the final eye of the storm location.” A representative from Epic Games chimed in on the thread to say the tracker is part of a new group of backpack items, but this particular one was not supposed to be included in the update.

“We’re always experimenting with and developing fun and creative items for our players,” the Epic representative said. “The Storm Tracker was an idea that was being tested for one of those backpacks. This was not intended to make it into the v4.2 Content Update and we can’t promise this will ever officially be released.”

Tuesday’s post from Epic about the content update mentioned the backpacks. The new items will take up a spot of inventory and will not be available for sale. Backpacks will replace a player’s back bling until the item is fully used at which point the back bling will return.

The Epic representative said, “we do hope those who got their hands on it had fun while it lasted,” which likely means they removed the Eye of the Storm Tracker from the game already. Fortnite players will have to wait and see if the developer decides to re-add the tracker.

With Fortnite reach the highest levels of popularity, Epic Games plans to go all out in the coming weeks. The developer announced a $100 million prize pool for future esports events and a Pro-Am event featuring the best Fortnite players along with various celebrities.
