When we first see Tony Stark in Avengers: Infinity War, he’s in a pretty good place. Sure, he’s still taking precautions in case somebody like Thanos ever comes (it’s a good thing, it turns out), but as he jogs around Central Park, we mostly get the sense that he’s happy with Pepper Potts. He’s even talking about wanting to have a child with her. Well, Gwyneth Paltrow might have let an Avengers 4 spoiler slip. Iron Man’s gonna be an Iron Dad.
Twitter user @ashley__renae was flipping through the pages of the official Infinity War magazine when she stumbled upon the possible spoiler. Although Pepper and Tony talk about kids in Infinity War, they’re not parents when the movie ends. In fact, we’re not even sure if Pepper is still alive or has been turned to dust. However, Paltrow told the magazine that the couple do have a kid.
“Pepper and Tony have had a real long journey together,” Paltrow said. “She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they’re married, and they have a child. Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve.”
There are a couple explanations for what this could mean. It’s possible, of course, that Paltrow just misspoke, and that Tony and Pepper are talking about having kids, which is still a pretty huge stage for any relationship. It could also be that the actress is conflating the events of Infinity War and Avengers 4, which filmed back-to-back. Perhaps by the end of Avengers 4, when the heroes undo the damage Thanos did with the Infinity Gauntlet, Pepper and Tony will be happy parents. Perhaps Pepper was pregnant in Infinity War. Or, maybe Avengers 4 takes place after a time jump, and it will begin with Pepper and Tony raising their kid in a world that has 50 percent fewer people in it.
