Original Iron Man Suit Stolen, Echoing the Plot of 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

One of the Iron Man suits from the first Iron Man movie that came out back in 2008 may have been stolen. This is essentially what the bad guy’s plan in Spider-Man: Homecoming was, so congrats to the Vulture, I guess!

CBSLA broke the news on Tuesday night, reporting that “the head, chest, leg and arms” of one of the suits from the 2008 film had gone missing from a prop storage facility in Los Angeles’s Pacoima neighborhood. The suit, which is reportedly worth $320,000, has been missing since April, having last been seen in February. The owners of the storage facility contacted police on Tuesday when they didn’t find it.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the disappearance as a possible theft. Other items were taken from the facility, but the LAPD’s spokesperson did not say what they were.

There are currently no suspects, but if this were the MCU, authorities might want to see if Adrian Toomes had an alibi. In 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, Michael Keaton played the classic Spidey villain, a family man who grew rich from an illegal high-tech and alien weapons black market. During the film’s climax, Spidey had to stop Vulture from pulling off his biggest heist yet: stealing all of Tony Starks gear while it was being transported from Avengers Tower in New York City to the new Avengers facility upstate.

Spider-Man was able to thwart Vulture’s plans, and none of Iron Man’s stuff went missing. However, Spider-Man turned to dust at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, so he is unable to help the LAPD solve this case. Also, Spider-Man is fictional, and this is a real crime, so there’s that.
