Correction: Directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed that actor Michael James Shaw is voicing Corvus Glaive, so Dinklage’s roll is still a mystery. Really does sound like him, though.
Peter Dinklage was a surprise addition to the cast of Avengers: Infinity War, as fans only learned the Game of Thrones star had a part in the film in January of this year, but what character he played was a mystery. A new, action-packed clip from the film probably revealed his role, because Dinklage has a very distinctive voice.
The clip, which debuted on Thursday during Good Morning America, features Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon kicking ass in a fight against two members of the Black Order, Thanos’s henchmen. One of them, Proxima Midnight, was recently revealed to be voiced by The Leftovers star Carrie Coon. When Proxima urges her partner, Corvus Glaive, to get up, he responds “I can’t.”
It’s not official confirmation, but that’s almost certainly Dinklage’s voice.
Dinklage is an amazing actor, as any viewer of Game of Thrones will tell you. He has won two Emmy Awards for his work as Tyrion Lannister in Thrones, and been nominated several other times. But, he doesn’t exactly have a sterling reputation when it comes to voiceover work. He infamously lent his voice to the player character’s AI companion, Ghost, in the blockbuster video game Destiny, but his performance was so listless and phoned-in that an update to the game completely replaced his recorded dialogue with another voice actor’s work.
Now, we’ve only heard Corvus Glaive say two words, so it’s too early to judge, but one assumes that Dinklage would try a little harder when it comes to what might just be the biggest movie of all time.
Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27.
