'Star Wars: Episode IX' Spoiler About Rey and Finn Isn't Actually a Spoiler
Star Wars fans are excited that Rey and Finn will be reunited in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX, which is huge news for anybody who walked out of The Last Jedi and didn’t see the last five minutes, where Rey and Finn reunited. Still, John Boyega’s excitement that Rey and Finn are “back together again” is indeed good news, it’s just not really that new.
Boyega, who plays Finn, told Empire that while he hasn’t read the script for Episode IX yet, co-star Daisy Ridley has, and she’s thrilled their dynamic duo from The Force Awakens will be at it again after being separated for most of The Last Jedi.
“I haven’t read the script for Episode IX. But, Daisy did shoot me a text saying, ‘Oh my gosh, I just heard from JJ (Abrams), and we’re back together,’” Boyega said in the article, which came out on Monday. “That’s what I’m really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again.”
That confirmation has Star Wars fans elated that Finn and Rey — whose comradery and charisma was certainly missed in The Last Jedi — will be together once more in Episode IX is a nice bit of expected news. (They’ll have to deal with potential third wheel Rose Tico now, but that’s a different story). However, given that The Last Jedi ended with them hugging, and brought all members of the now-tiny Resistance in once place, the Empire story should be more of a confirmation of what we assumed to be true, rather than giant news. Did anybody really think that Lucasfilm was going to reunite Rey and Finn at the end of Last Jedi only to split them up again at the start of Episode IX?
Star Wars: Episode IX will come out on December 20, 2019. The next Star Wars Movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story, comes out on May 25 of this year.
