John Oliver's Book Parodying Mike Pence is Already #1 on Amazon
'A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo' was the top-selling book on Monday.
by Mike BrownJohn Oliver is taking aim at Mike Pence. In the same week the vice president released a children’s book about his pet rabbit, the Last Week Tonight host also took the wraps off a book about the same bunny. And Oliver’s version is already beating the original in Amazon’s book charts.
A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo is a spoof of Marlon Bundo’s Day in the Life of the Vice President, written by Pence’s daughter Charlotte that chronicles his bunny’s appearances at national events. Oliver’s book takes aim at the vice president’s hostile stance against the LGBT community, including a visit to the Focus on the Family organization, whose founder James Dobson has ties to Pence and has promoted so-called “reparative therapy.”
The book is already proving popular. On Monday, the day of Pence’s book launch, Amazon’s list of best-selling books shows the John Oliver-promoted version, written by Jill Twist with illustrations from E.G. Keller, at the number one spot in the chart. (Pence’s book ranks at number 15.)
“There are a few small differences between the two books,” Oliver said in Sunday’s episode. “You’ll notice right away that our rabbit has a bow tie, so there’s that. Also our story is about Marlon Bundo falling in love with another boy rabbit because our Marlon Bundo is gay.” He added: “Let me be clear about this, this is a real children’s book! This is a sweet story about Marlon Bundo falling in love.”
All proceeds of the book’s sale will go to the Trevor Project, an organization fighting to save LGBTQ lives, as well as AIDS United.
Here’s how to get your hands on Oliver’s new book on Amazon, where it is available in a variety of formats: Hardcover is priced at $18.99, while Kindle is priced at $13.37 (a possible reference to famous internet slang).
