‘Game of Thrones’ Wastes Our Time With a Season 8 Poster

It’s going to be quite some time until Game of Thrones comes back for its final season, which isn’t going to premiere until sometime in the spring of next year. With the exception of one big spoiler thanks to some fiery set photos, fans haven’t been given many hints on what to expect from the Season 8. An underwhelming new poster for the upcoming season doesn’t offer any new information, but it’s not like we really should’ve expected it to.

As Collider notes, the poster which simply says “GoT Final Season” along with “2019” and the Stark, Targaryen, and Lannister sigils, popped up ahead of the summer’s annual Licensing Expo. The Expo is an opportunity for brands to try to get a license to use aspects of other big brands and pop culture phenomenon (like a toy company getting permission to make Marvel action figures, for an easy example). Sometimes, entertainment properties will bring new posters or assets to the Expo in a bid to entice folks into pursuing a license.

The final season of Game of Thrones doesn’t need to do much in order to excite people, is the thing. It’s certainly not going to give away any potential spoilers this far ahead of the premiere, and it’s not really intended for the general public. So, here we are, looking at a poster that does the bare minimum, and yet it’s kind of exciting just because it’s … for the last season of Game of Thrones.

Ta da!

Whatever. At least it wasn’t a melting block of ice.

Game of Thrones Season 8 will premiere in 2019, like it says on the poster.
