'Skyscraper' Super Bowl Trailer: 'Die Hard' Meets 'Air Force One'

Will it be better than 'Rampage' though?

by James Grebey

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a badass amputee who needs to scale 200-floor skyscraper in order to save his imperiled family? Yeah, sounds about right.

The movie, appropriately named Skyscraper, premiered its first trailer during the Super Bowl between the Eagles and Patriots. It looks appropriately stupid and awesome in equal measure. The film stars Johnson as Will Sawyer, a former FBI team leader who now assess the security of skyscrapers, as the work for a client goes awry. The building in question is the tallest and most advanced building on the planet, but it’s also a very challenging building from a security standpoint.

When Will is framed for setting the building on fire, he has to clear his name, find the real criminal and save his own family. In order to do that, he needs to leap onto the glass facade from a nearby crane and hope that his prosthetic leg doesn’t come off, because it’s the only thing keeping him from falling to a horrible death.

Skyscraper looks like it could be a fun action movie that’s something of a cross between Die Hard and Air Force One. It’s a tried and true genre, and the Rock has enough charisma that he might make Skyscraper a worthwhile addition to the library of movies about devoted action-dads.

But, will Skyscraper be better than Rampage, which stars the Rock and his friend, a giant albino gorilla named George? It’s hard to say for now.

Skyscraper will premiere on July 13, 2018.
