If you want to know exactly when the eighth season of Game of Thrones will finally debut, don’t ask Ayra Stark. Actress Maisie Williams has spoken out about a widely talked-about quote concerning the debut of the new season. Basically, that wasn’t her.
On January 24, Williams supposedly told Metro that fans would probably have to wait about 20 months between season 7 and season 8 of Game of Thrones. And though HBO is still saying season 8 will happen sometime in 2019, these comments seemed to suggest it would happen in April 2019.
But on Monday, Williams took to Twitter and said: “This Game of Thrones release date “quote” I’ve supposedly given is completely false and taken from an interview I did years ago.”
Which means, in terms of figuring out when Game of Thrones season 8 will happen, we’re all pretty much back at square one.
Maisie Williams also isn’t known to lie or mince words on her Twitter account. When fans speculated she would return to Doctor Who season 10, after her memorable role as Lady Me in Season 9, she said unequivocally, “I’m not going to be working on Doctor Who again.” And, guess what? She didn’t.
So, there you have it, if we want hints about Game of Thrones from Maisie Williams, we might want to check her Twitter account first, to make sure whatever we think she said wasn’t just a bizarre game of telephone. In the meantime, the wait until the next Game of Thrones season is still long, no matter if it’s in April or any other time in 2019.
