'Ant-Man and the Wasp' Trailer: What Happened After 'Civil War'

by James Grebey

Ant-Man answered Captain America’s call for help during Civil War’s big airport fight, and as a result, Scott Lang ended up in prison, and then as a fugitive. Being in trouble with the law isn’t anything new for the ex-con, but it did raise an important question: How was Scott’s fugitive status going to impact the sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp? The first trailer answers the question.

The trailer, which hit the web on Tuesday morning, opens with Scott asking Hope van Dyne, a.k.a. the Wasp, if she would’ve fought with Captain America alongside him if he’d ask. She, cheekily, notes that Scott wouldn’t have gotten caught had she been there. It’s the first of many jokes about how Hope is pretty much a better superhero than Scott in every way, who is seen in his San Francisco home wearing an ankle bracelet. Far from hiding in Wakanda with Cap and Bucky, Scott appears to have struck a deal allowing him to go home under some sort of house arrest. Hope and Hank Pym, though had to go on the run, giving the whole trailer an espionage feel that’s somewhat similar to the first movie’s heist vibe.

The trailer also offers fans’ first glimpse at the villain of Ant-Man and the Wasp, a character named Ghost who developed technology that lets them turn invisible or intangible. In the comics, Ghost is a male baddie who typically haunts Iron Man, but in the MCU film ghost is a woman, played by Hannah John-Kamen.

Ghost really has a 'Destiny' vibe.

By the looks of it, Ant-Man and the Wasp, which also stars an as-yet-unseen Michelle Pfeiffer playing the original Wasp, is really going all in on the size gags that made the original fun. Watch the trailer to the very end for a great Hello Kitty cameo, of sorts.

Ant-Man and the Wasp will hit theaters on July 6.
