Nobody Knows Why Neil deGrasse Tyson Threatened the Internet with Science

What is going on???

Hey Neil! It’s your nice friend, Rae. You doing okay, buddy? Just checking in because I’m worried about your tweets, as usual.

On Friday, NDT dropped what could be interpreted as a subtweet about a specific person — or the entire internet. We’re not really sure what the context is, but he sure does seem fired up — and ready to science all over the place.

“Don’t make me find you and mic-drop on your ass,” the beloved astrophysicist writes. In less than an hour, the tweet has garnered more than 18,000 likes.

There’s at least one thing we know for sure: the screenshot is from NDT’s appearance on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore back in 2016, in which he (rightfully) delivered a scathing rap directed at Flat Earthers. The video immediately took off on YouTube and has since racked up almost 1.5 million views.

“By the way, this is gravity,” Tyson says as he ends the rap, dropping the mic. You get it? Heh.

That still doesn’t explain why Tyson decided to send this tweet today, on a random Friday in 2018. Maybe it’s another jab at Flat Earthers? Maybe it’s his way of announcing that he’s starring in the next Taken movie?

Seriously, your guess is as good as mine. No one online seems to understand what’s going on.

Sure, Neil deGrasse Tyson is known for being extremely himself on Twitter. And sure, we don’t really understand it. But hopefully Tyson squashes his beef with whomever has dared to piss him off.

In the meantime, Neil, feel free to let us know if you need someone to talk to. We’ll send you cute animal gifs!
