Arrowverse Crossover Synopsis Introduces a Familiar “New” Character
The annual Arrowverse crossovers bring together heroes from all of the DC TV series, but the upcoming crossover, Crisis on Earth-X, will add a new hero to the mix. Well, sort of. The official synopsis for the crossover contains the first mention of Citizen Cold, an alternate version of Wentworth Miller’s reoccurring Flash and Legends of Tomorrow character Captain Cold.
The synopsis — or technically synopses, although the text was pretty much identical for the Supergirl, Flash, Arrow, and Legend episode descriptions — lays out what fans can expect when evil versions of heroes from a parallel, Nazi-controlled world decided to crash a wedding.
Here’s the synopsis:
Barry (guest star Grant Gustin) and Iris’s (guest star Candice Patton) wedding brings the gang together, but things go awry when villains from Earth-X attack the ceremony. All of the superheroes band together with help from their super friends like Citizen Cold (guest star Wentworth Miller), The Ray (guest star Russell Tovey), Felicity Smoak (guest star Emily Bett Rickards), Iris West and Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) to take on their most formidable villains yet. Earth’s mightiest heroes – Green Arrow (guest star Stephen Amell), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), The Flash (guest star Grant Gustin) and White Canary (guest star Caity Lotz) – lead their teams into battle to save the world. Larry Teng directed the episode with story by Andrew Kreisberg & Marc Guggenheim and teleplay by Robert Rovner & Jessica Queller.
Citizen Cold, was first introduced in the DC Comics arc Flashpoint, as an alternate version of the anti-hero in a messed-up universe unwittingly created by the Flash. It’s unclear if the Arrowverse’s Citizen Cold will have a similar origin, as The Flash did a mini-Flashpoint arc last season, or if he’ll be from Earth-X.
Wentworth, the actor behind Captain/Citizen Cold, has been an Arrowverse mainstay, but this year will be his last hurrah. In an Instagram post the previous week, he announced that some upcoming Flash and Legends of Tomorrow episodes marked the last time he’d play the character. So, whatever Citizen Cold’s deal is, this’ll probably be a swan song for Miller.
The four-part crossover event kicks off with Supergirl on Monday, November 27 at 8 p.m.
