‘Infinity War’ Will Give the Hulk an Unlikely, Hilarious New Buddy

They may have started off on the wrong foot, but by the end of Thor: Ragnarok, the Incredible Hulk and the God of Thunder were friends. Well, in the Hulk’s next appearance, the big green guy is going to make another buddy — only this friend will be comically small in comparison.

USA Today ran a story on Wednesday about the Hulk’s role in Ragnarok, and actor Mark Ruffalo offered up a preview of what he’ll be up to in Avengers: Infinity War. Hulk loves to destroy stuff, and so does his future friend, Guardians of the Galaxy’s Rocket Raccoon. Presumably, the pair’s hair-triggers will be played for laughs, but Ruffalo teased that their massive size differences are doing to be a hoot.

“All of the universes coming together is just a sight gag within itself,” he said. “It’s a very funny relationship that the two of them have: First of all, it’s the biggest superhero and the smallest. Just keeping them in a frame together is a feat and hilarious in itself.”

In the first Guardians, Rocket spent a lot of time perch on Groot’s shoulder, but when the plant bruiser was reborn as the much, much smaller Baby Groot for Vol. 2, they switched roles. Infinity War will feature Teen Groot, who still isn’t nearly as tall as the towering full-grown Groot. It’s unclear if Rocket will be able to ride on Teen Groot, but if he and the Hulk hit it off, at least Rocket will have a new shoulder to kill from.
