Hopper's Weird Dance on 'Stranger Things' Is the Internet's Best New Meme
Get ready for lots of epic dad dancing.
The Internet has found the inspiration for its latest meme sensation from some high quality dad dancing courtesy of Stranger Things police chief Jim Hopper.
Since the popular Netflix show’s Season 2 came out on Friday, fans took advantage of the weekend to binge watch the nine episodes and theorize what will happen next season. The new season has also sparked the internet to quickly meme its favorite scenes, getting a particular delight out of Jim Hopper’s awkward dance moves as he puts on a record and tries to lighten the mood in the dusty cabin he’s intends to make into a home for himself and Eleven.
Users have replaced the original music to portray Hopper dancing to obscure EDM songs, classic 80s music, and literally any thing else they can think up.
Even David Harbour, the actor who portrays Hopper in the show, has picked up on his dance’s meme-ification and even encouraged it to continue on Twitter. Harbour heaped praise on a user named @Hopperdancingto that has been taking requests for music to pair with Hopper’s dancing scene.
“Whoever created this account has won, not only the internet, but, yes, my stone cold heart. Thank you @hopperdancingto,” he said.
The internet is basically perpetually primed for turning awkward dances moves into viral memes. Unless you live under a rock, you’ve seen “rickrolling” using Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up,” and the torrential downpour of memes that came out of Drake’s dad-like dance moves in the “Hotline Bling” music video.
