‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Director Really Wanted Deadpool in the Movie

Thor: Ragnarok is full of Marvel characters like Loki, Hulk, and Doctor Strange. But director Taika Waititi would have been interested in throwing another character in the mix, if it was actually possible.

In response to a question posed by Twitter user @karadanverss, Waititi tweeted on Wednesday that he would have used Deadpool in the film if it was possible. Since the rights to portray the character in films are owned by Fox, though, that was never an option because of “laws n shit.”

It’s easy to see why Waititi would have wanted to use Deadpool in the film. Thor: Ragnarok places a heavy emphasis on comedy and gives characters like Thor and Hulk more personality than ever before. The Merc with a Mouth would have fit right in, even if him and his antics would have had to be toned down a bit for a non-R-rated audience.

Since so much of Ragnarok doesn’t take place on Earth, it would have been interesting to see how the film would have weaved Deadpool in. While he probably would have made a fine Revenger, if he somehow met Thor, the option which doesn’t involve too much story work would be to include him in one of the film’s post-credits scenes, which would be an absolutely insane way of teasing fans at the end of the film. For now, though, we’ll have to wonder at what could have been.

Thor: Ragnarok opens in the US on November 3. Deadpool 2 is set to premiere on June 1, 2018.
