Hugh Jackman played Wolverine for 17 years, but over the course of nearly two decades worth of X-Men movies he never once wore the classic yellow costume that the character wears in the Marvel Comics. Now that he’s finished playing Logan, it seems unlikely that we’ll ever see him wear that costume — but that won’t stop him from trolling.
On Thursday, the actor tweeted a selfie where he’s holding a store-bought Wolverine Halloween costume. “Just maybe I will finally wear blue and yellow spandex for my #halloweencostume,” Jackson wrote in the caption. It doesn’t seem like he ended up buying the costume because he added a second hashtag: “#tootall.”
It’s hard to remember now, but when Jackman was first cast as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, there was some minor outrage that the 6’2” actor was far too tall to play Logan, who was normally drawn to be a much more squat, stockier man. Clearly, those concerns were unwarranted, as Jackman’s portrayal is probably the definitive Wolverine these days. Unfortunately, cheap, store-bought Halloween costumes are usually “one size fits all,” meaning they won’t fit at all if the wearer is even a little tall.
Jackman might not be wearing the costume on Halloween, and he never wore it in an actual movie, but he came kinda close once. An alternate ending to 2013’s The Wolverine showed him opening up a case containing a very fancy version of the classic suit. He didn’t wear it, and that scene ended up being deleted, but chances are that costume would’ve actually fit.
