Wait, the Dolphins are... good?
The Miami Dolphins are a surprising 4-2 as they take a three-game winning streak to Baltimore for Thursday night’s game against the Ravens. Baltimore, for its part, is just trying to prove it still has an offense. A hive mind of about 30 NFL fans predicts the Dolphins will win.
The Dolphins are currently in line for one of the AFC’s two wild card spots, a remarkable result considering they lost their starting quarterback before the season and had to un-retire Jay Cutler just to get someone under center. But Cutler in turn got injured last week, meaning longtime backup Matt Moore will lead the team after helping engineer a comeback victory last week. Miami’s offense still hasn’t exactly been good, but it’s been enough lately to get some timely scores, which is more than can be said for the suddenly struggling Ravens.

To predict the result of this and other games, Unanimous A.I. used what’s known as swarm intelligence to forecast the week’s slate. More than 40 NFL fans worked together as a hive mind to make picks. As you can see in the animation below, each participant controlled a little golden magnet and used it to drag the puck toward the answer they thought was the most likely outcome. As the users saw the puck move toward a particular outcome, it triggers a psychological response. They readjust their decision-making, building toward a consensus. Unanimous A.I. has made some scarily accurate predictions in the past using swarm intelligence, as our previous article explains. For instance, the swarm went a perfect 7-0 in its most recommended picks for a recent English Premier League slate.
The swarm takes a bit of time to make up its mind before ultimately going with the Dolphins, albeit with low confidence. The 72 percent collective brainpower behind the pick is also low.
The Ravens are favored by three, which makes the hive mind a little more confident that Miami is the pick here, though only a little bit — it’s still a low confidence pick with 76 percent brainpower.
The game kicks off 8:25 p.m. Eastern Thursday on CBS, the NFL Network, and Amazon Prime Video.
