Pokémon Go's Halloween Event Officially has Lots of New Characters to Catch
It'll be ... spooktacular.
Halloween has come early for those still playing Pokémon Go, one of 2016’s most dowloaded iOS apps, and it’s in the form of Ghost-themed surprises and Generation 3 characters released Friday afternoon.
Fans have previously speculated third generation Pokémon would be released in the game’s Halloween update, and Pokémon Go creator Niantic confirmed the news late Thursday. The company says that its second annual Halloween event — scheduled to start Friday at 3 p.m. ET — will feature “a number of Ghost-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region” and “spooky Pokémon” that appeared in last year’s October event.
For those that aren’t Pokémon aficionados, this basically means there will be some characters that were seen years ago on the game’s Ruby and Sapphire editions back when handheld Nintendo Game Boy Advances were still a thing. Also in the update, users can expect to see some Halloween characters looking like mummies and ghosts, candy “trick-or-treating” rewards, and even Pikachu wearing a witch’s hat.
The Halloween event will go live on Pokémon Go at 3 p.m. ET and run almost two weeks until November 2 at 4 p.m. Watch the full trailer for the Halloween event below.
Get out there and get spooky.
