Marvel Reveals Where Captain Marvel Has Been Hiding This Whole Time

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will be going back to the ‘90s in the upcoming Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson. But if the entire MCU began only began less than a decade ago in 2008, when Tony Stark built his Iron Man suit for the first time, then where has ace pilot Carol Danvers been all these years? Marvel Studios figurehead Kevin Feige hinted at an answer.

In a conversation with iO9 for Thor: Ragnarok, Feige revealed that Carol Danvers is “out there” as Captain Marvel, implying that the mighty hero is out in the reaches of space. It’s a pretty vague location, to be sure, but given how grounded the MCU has been to Earth, it makes sense that Carol wouldn’t make an appearance over the last 20-ish movies.

Only a few movies and shows in the MCU have bothered to travel out in space, and only a few of them have been out of the Milky Way. Both Guardians of the Galaxy movies take place in the Andromeda galaxy, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Inhumans have just barely passed the moon. All the Thor movies, including Thor: Ragnarok, definitely take place on alien planets, but still maybe not far enough for Carol to accidentally cross paths.

Wherever Carol Danvers is, she better come quick. Because Thanos is coming for Avengers: Infinity War very soon.

Captain Marvel will be released on March 6, 2019.
