Arya and Sansa Stark spent most of Game of Thrones’s penultimate season at each other’s throats, but a new behind-the-scenes featurette reveals that real-life “best mates” Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner were actually besties on the set.
What Happened
On Monday, HBO shared the latest installment of their series of behind-the-scenes looks at the making of Game of Thrones Season 7 titled The Game Revealed. An excerpt posted on Game of Thrones’s YouTube focuses on Williams and Turner’s long-awaited reunion.
“As I read the progression of the season, I knew it wasn’t going to be all fun and games on set,” Williams explains, alluding to Littlefinger’s almost-successful attempt to turn Arya and Sansa against one another. “But, to have Sophie around on set again has just been the best.”
What It Means
Williams and Turner seem like they were having a lot more fun being back in Winterfell than their characters did in Season 7. Since the clips are all either behind-the-scenes shots or outtakes, they have no bearing on the plot of Game of Thrones, but can you imagine if Arya and Sansa actually liked each other? A more positive relationship might’ve made Season 7’s Winterfell plot a little easier to stomach.
What’s Next
Game of Thrones’s eighth and final season will premiere a long time from now, but the sisters Stark appear to be on better terms with one another after offing Littlefinger in the Season 7 finale. So, Williams and Turner’s on-screen and off-screen relationships might match up a little bit better.
