Yes, Jon Hamm Is Really Playing Boba Fett in 'Star Wars'

by Ryan Britt

Boom! Mad Men actor Jon Hamm will play the voice of intergalactic bounty hunter Boba Fett in a new Star Wars audiobook. Literally, no one saw this coming.

What Hapened

On Friday Star Wars.com revealed several voice actors are confirmed for the audiobook version of the Star Wars short story anthology From a Certain Point of View. And the most surprising name on that list is none other than Jon Hamm of Mad Men fame. Neil Patrick Harris (A Series of Unfortunate Events) is also part of the voice cast in an unspecified role. Several authors from the book will provide voices, too.

What It Means

Without a doubt, Jon Hamm is the most famous person to be playing Boba Fett, ever. The original voice of Boba Fett was Jason Wingreen, though canonically that was changed to Temuera Morrison for the DVD release of the classic trilogy in 2004. (Morrison played Jango Fett, and Boba Fett was a clone of Jango, hence the change.)

Here’s the thing about Hamm playing the voice of Boba Fett: Not only is it awesome, it’s also now going to be canon. All the new Star Wars books, including From a Certain Point of View, are part of “real” Star Wars. Meaning, we can now enjoy a Star Wars universe where, in our minds, Boba Fett sounds like Jon Hamm, even in Return of the Jedi.

What’s Next

This is almost too obvious to say, but if a Boba Fett standalone movie ends up happening and Jon Hamm does the voice, justice will be forever restored to the galaxy.

From a Certain Point of View, in both hardcover and audio formats, will hit bookshelves on October 3.
