'Star Wars' Fans All Demand the Same Thing of the Obi-Wan Movie
Help us, Ewan McGregor, you’re our only hope. News of the Obi-Wan standalone put Star Wars fans in a tizzy despite not yet being 100 percent confirmed by Lucasfilm. And while there are plenty of demands from fans, who are already detailing exactly when they want the film set in the Star Wars universe, no one’s really arguing about who should play the famed Jedi master.
One of the most popular threads currently on the r/StarWars subreddit is “The Kenobi movie Megathread,” with the most popular comment from Reddit user fleeceIsIcky garnering almost 2,000 points: “Ewan Mcgregor or bust.”
McGregor first appeared as Obi-Wan in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and portrayed Anakin Skywalker’s steadily aging Jedi master for the remainder of the prequel trilogy. The actor’s enthusiasm for the series made him a fan-favorite, with fans commonly thinking of him as the best part of the often controversial prequels.
McGregor has denied knowledge of an Obi-Wan film in the past, but he’s been relatively silent since the news broke.
And while a lead role for McGregor isn’t the only thing fans are demanding (Star Wars fans are anything but complacent and easy to please), it’s definitely the most important. Fans have all kinds of ideas about when, exactly, the film should take place in the Star Wars* universe — between Episodes III and IV, II and III, or before Phantom Menace? — and which characters should be involved — will Hayden Christensen reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker?
But one thing is for certain: It’s McGregor or bust.
The Obi-Wan Star Wars standalone does not yet have a premiere date.
