Here’s Why ‘Aquaman’ Is Giving Off Serious Jar Jar Binks Vibes
Not too many details about Aquaman have surfaced, but in a new interview, actor Ludi Lin, who will play Murk in the DCEU film, opened up about director James Wan’s vision for Aquaman. Expect it to have a similar feeling as Star Wars — but underwater.
“The difference between Aquaman and the other superheroes in the DC Universe, is that it exists almost in a different world,” the Power Rangers star explained during an interview on The Ara Show on Canada’s Kiss Radio. “James Wan, our director, is amazing. He’s described his vision as ‘Star Wars underwater’ because it is! All the physics are different, their weapons are different, the characters are very unique. It’s just super cool.”
Underwater Star Wars? Well, fans have seen that before, in 1999’s The Phantom Menace when Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan met Jar-Jar Binks, who led them to the submerged city of Otoh Gunga. While Star Wars would rather never think of Jar Jar Binks again, the Gungan city was pretty neat, and was one of the few good examples of George Lucas’s obsession with CGI during the prequel era. Hopefully, the DCEU’s Atlantis will look even better and won’t have a cartoonish (and kind of racist) side character.
Aquaman will be released on December 21, 2018.
