Does Riverdale exist in the Arrowverse? Anything is possible when it comes to DC’s television multiverse, which could be why Supergirl’s dropping by Archie’s favorite milkshake spot, Pop’s, in a new behind-the-scenes photo on the Riverdale set.
In the wee hours of Thursday morning, Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa tweeted a photo from the show’s set with Supergirl star Melissa Benoist, in full costume, sitting next to Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) at Pop’s. Along with the photo, Aguirre-Sacasa tweeted: “Look who dropped in to #Riverdale for a visit! Worlds colliding!! Can a crossover be far behind??”
As unlikely as it may be, a crossover isn’t impossible. Almost all of the CW shows are produced in Vancouver, so it could not have been a difficult trip for Benoist — who is also a fan of the teen soap opera and is friends with the Riverdale cast — to pay a visit to Pop’s.
Also, Archie has a history of crossovers in its comic book series. Besides inhabiting its own “universe,” Archie has had guest characters like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel’s Punisher, Kiss, the characters from the TV show Glee, and even the Predator in the 2015 mini-series Archie vs. Predator.
In all likelihood, Supergirl’s visit is probably from a new CW promo shoot, as the network has a small history of doing “crossovers” for its branding spots. Back in 2000, when the CW was the WB, the network released its now cult classic “The Night is Young” promo, in which the stars of Dawson’s Creek, Felicity, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Jamie Foxx Show, and Roswell partied together at a trendy nightclub.
Supergirl will return to the CW on October 9 at 8 p.m. Eastern.
