Ever since Jon Snow came back to life in Season 6, Game of Thrones has weirdly made his resurrection a nonissue. But, a new photo from the sixth episode of Season 7 suggests it’s coming back into the forefront.
The sixth and penultimate episode of Game of Thrones Season 7 will be called “Beyond the Wall.” In it, Jon Snow and his Magnificent Seven/ Suicide Squad/Avengers — take your pick of name — will battle White Walkers near Eastwatch-by-the-Sea.
On Wednesday, the day after the episode leaked, HBO released a new photo from “Beyond the Wall” featuring Jon Snow and Beric Dondarrion. The leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners is the only other person we know who has also experienced the same sort of resurrection Jon underwent. Back when Arya and Gendry first met him in Season 3, he regaled them with tales of his multiple resurrections. Curiously, he told them that each time his friend the Red Priest Thoros brought him back, he came back “less.”
So far, Jon hasn’t shown many behavioral changes after his brush with death. In fact, it’s odd how little such a monumental event in Seasons 5 and 6 has impacted the plot. He even quickly brushed it off when Daenerys brought it up in “Eastwatch.” Both the show and Jon have treated it along the lines of, “Resurrection? Nothing to see here!”
But perhaps his conversation with Beric will bring to light the ways in which Jon has come back “less.”
Here’s the photo:
“Beyond the Wall” airs on Sunday August 20 at 9 p.m. Eastern on HBO.
