Jon Snow’s squad of warriors venturing north of the Wall might be the most badass group we’ve ever seen on Game of Thrones, but one detail from the trailer for next week’s episode might hint at a certain character’s death.
You’re not going to like it.
Potential spoilers of Ice and Fire for Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 6 follow.
Let’s face it: Sending a small squad north of the Wall to capture a zombie was always a bad idea. Will Cersei ever agree to join in the fight against the Night King? Probably not. If the trailer for next week is any indication, then Jon’s elite squad will be completely overwhelmed by a small horde of zombies and at least a couple White Walkers.
During the trailer, the Hound swings a heavy blunt weapon to crush the skull of an ice zombie. It’s a short clip, but it’s very clearly not the sword he’s shown wielding a few moments before.
It’s hard to tell amidst the snow and wind, but it looks like the Hound is wielding Gendry’s warhammer, which could mean that Robert Baratheon’s bastard dies in battle and the Hound picks up the weapon.
Redditor EllaSu had the same reaction as all of us when they noticed this first and said, “Why is the hound holding gendry’s hammer??? i didn’t wait 4 seasons for gendry to die right away.”
Gendry might not die in the next episode, but he’s definitely handing over the hammer at some point during the upcoming battle. As the living human warriors line up in the open field at another point in the trailer, Clegane holds a sword. There’ll be some kind of weapon swapping going on here, and things aren’t looking good for everyone’s favorite rower.
