While Greyworm and the Unsullied were infiltrating Casterly Rock on Sunday’s Game of Thrones, a hacker in the real world was breaking into HBO’s systems. The hacker has leaked a purported script for the upcoming fourth episode of Game of Thrones, as well as upcoming episodes of the HBO shows Ballers and Room 104, and is threatening to release more stolen material.

The hacker (or hackers) managed to steal 1.5 terabytes of data, according to Entertainment Weekly, which broke the story. HBO confirmed that a hack had taken place but would not disclose what had been stolen. So far, the criminals haven’t released any unaired episodes of Game of Thrones — just the script for Episode 4, “The Spoils of War.” It’s unclear if they obtained additional content or full episodes of Thrones, though the hackers did promise “more soon.”

“Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening,” the supposed hacker wrote in an email to reporters. “What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling.” (sic)

“HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information,” the network said in a statement given to EW. “We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.”

HBO is protective of Game of Thrones especially ever since the first four episodes of Season 5 leaked after screeners given to members of the press hit the web. The network hasn’t given out screeners since then to prevent that type of leak.

This story is still developing.
