Even though Marvel’s starting to get everyone excited for the long-awaited Avengers: Infinity War, there are still two MCU movies ahead of it: Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther. But, does the footage Marvel premiered at D23 and Comic-Con spoil the ending of Ragnarok? Taika Waititi, the director of the third Thor movie, says no.
If you’ve read descriptions of the footage (or tracked down a low-quality leak), you’ll remember that it begins with Thor, still sporting his slick Ragnarok haircut, floating through space where he slams into the Guardians of the Galaxy’s spaceship. Does this mean the extremely sci-fi-influenced Ragnarok ends with a defeated Thor drifting through space?
“No, actually. No,” Waititi told io9 who reported that the director was confused by the question.
This makes a certain amount of sense, since it would be a huge bummer to end a very fun-looking Thor movie with the hero defeated and floating through space for almost a year. But, now that we know that Ragnarok won’t end with Thor’s defeat, Waititi’s comments are a clue that might help us put together the beginning of Infinity War. If Thor is, presumably, victorious in Asgard at the end of the upcoming Ragnarok, then that would suggest that Thanos and his crew are going to pay him a visit when Infinity War stars. And that’s when he’s going to get rocketed into space.
Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018, while Thor: Ragnarok premieres on November 3 of this year.
