Tesla's DIY Commercial Finalists Will Make You Feel All Warm Inside
If you thought that your love for Tesla couldn’t get any stronger, you were wrong. The finalists for the company’s homemade commercial contest “Project Loveday” have been announced, and they will spark feelings in you that you, ah, didn’t know you could have for cars.
Seriously, this contest was a brilliant move: It’s probably going to be responsible for a ton of sales, and the company didn’t have to do any work to create the advertisements.
Who came up with the ingenious idea? A ten-year-old girl named Bria Loveday, who wrote a letter to Tesla CEO Elon Musk explaining the concept back in March.
“I’m writing you because I would like to make a suggestion for your company,” she said in the letter. “The cool part is that you still won’t be taking the time and money to advertise for yourself. Plus, this is something your fans and customers will definitely love.”
She was right, and Musk knew it. Within an hour, he tweeted out a response: “Thank you for the lovely letter. That sounds like a great idea. We’ll do it!”
Four months later, all the videos are in and the finalists have been chosen. Check them out:
You can vote for your favorites this week. Tesla tweeted out all of the videos; the three with the most likes by Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern will run on the Model 3 webcast.
The Grand Prize Winner will get an all-expenses-paid trip to “a future Tesla product launch,” as well as a public introduction there. It’s no free Tesla, but it’s still a pretty great prize.
The videos are being judged based on entertainment value, creativity, originality, and relevance to the Tesla mission.
Tesla hasn’t set a date for when the Grand Prize Winner will be announced and just says that it will be “in the upcoming weeks.” In the meantime, watch those amazing videos and let them get you hyped.
