A brand new Game of Thrones trailer has debuted at San Diego Comic-Con. Its most intriguing footage is an epic meet-up between Melisandre and Daenerys Targaryen.
In anticipation of the Game of Thrones panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2017, [Watchers on the Wall reports] that a new teaser for Season 7 is out.
When Melisandre last appeared in Season 6, Jon Snow banished her from the North. She had been sticking to his side post-resurrection — but right before the Battle of the Bastards, Jon’s new right hand man Davos discovered her role in Shireen Baratheon’s death. As punishment, Jon sent her away, and it looks like she’s returned to her old stomping ground Dragonstone.
That’s where the audience first met Melisandre, as she encouraged Stannis to burn people on the beach. Now that Daenerys has claimed the castle in the first episode of Season 7, Melisandre’s penchant for prophecy has a new target.
In the trailer, she says to Dany, “I believe you have a role to play … as does another.”
This is intriguing, because Melisandre has previously mentioned two legendary heroes who are destined to save the world: the prince that was promised and Azor Ahai reborn.
Fans have long debated about whether they’re two different people or the same title for the same person. Melisandre’s words here imply that she could now be in support of the former option of two saviors, with Jon and Daenerys filling the respective roles.
Here’s the trailer:
