Ultra scary purple bad guy Thanos is looking to end the Avengers and the Marvel Universe as we know it, and he’s got the infinity stones to make it happen. The imagery was revealed Saturday in a sneak peak of a new trailer for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War at D23 in Anaheim, California.
“Almost every single hero we’ve ever introduced is going to be in that film,” said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige during the D23 live action panel. “Why you ask? Thanos bows to no man.”
A huge crew of Marvel Universe characters graced stage to tease at what’s to come in the next Avengers flick. Other than ScarJo, practically everyone was there, including Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr. and even the big purple himself, Josh Brolin.
Co-director Joe Russo did the honors of introducing the footage, which is not available to the public yet, but based on reports went like so:
We first see the Guardians of the Galaxy in a field of asteroids out in space, looking for something. Out of nowhere an unconscious Thor slams into their ship and he looks like he’s had the crap beaten out of him.
“Wipe it! Wipe it! Get it off!” Rocket shouts.
The Guardians retrieve Thor from their windshield and once he’s revived inside the ship he says, “Who the hell are you guys?”
After that it’s a big montage of images, including Loki with his hands on the Tesseract, a shot of Peter Parker on a school bus back on Earth, where the hair on his arms stands up. Could it be that Spidey senses can predict the coming end of the world?
There are also shots of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange.
Flash forward to Thanos emerging from a portal onto Earth, as Star-Lord and Doctor Strange and Spider-Man leap into action to fight him. Black Widow and Captain America are there too, and reportedly Black Widow is blonde now and Captain America has a beard, for some reason.
“I know what it’s like to lose, to fight so desperately with all your life, but to fail just the same,” Thanos says. “Run from it, but destiny still arrives.”
There is an image indicating that Thanos already has two stones in the Infinity Gauntlet, which might explain why in the final scene he’s able to destroy a moon or another planet and summon its broken remains towards a battleground and the Avengers. It sounds like some real dooms day stuff. We’ll have to wait until Marvel releases the trailer to get the full picture.
Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters May 4, 2018.
