In celebration of National Ice Cream Day, McDonalds is giving away a lifetime supply of vanilla cones on Sunday to one fortunate(?) customer.

According to the contest rules, a “lifetime supply” of ice cream means one vanilla cone a week for fifty years, which we can’t really argue with. And according to the nutritional information listed on the McDonald’s website, each vanilla cone contains 24 grams of sugar.

A cursory Google search informed us that there are 2,607 weeks in fifty years.

That means that McDonald’s will bestow upon someone the incredible gift of consuming 62,568 grams of sugar, albeit over a period that spans half a century.

We live in tumultuous times. No one can be sure what exactly the next 50 years will bring. Which governments will fall? How will climate change alter the topography of our planet? Morgan Freeman is probably going to die at some point.

There is only one certainty: for the next five decades, a lone ice cream lover will enjoy vanilla soft serve from McDonald’s on a weekly basis.

To enter the contest, dubbed the “Golden Arches Cone Game,” you have to download the McDonald’s App on or before Sunday, and redeem their “Free Vanilla Cone” offer between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at a participating location.

The winner will also receive a “special Golden Arches Cone,” which they can melt down and sell when the economy collapses.
