When we last left Westworld, things had all gone to shit. The complex theme part that served as the setting of HBO’s drama had been taken over by robotic hosts who slaughtered most of the humans inside the park’s dusty borders. One of the presumed victims was the intimidating Man in Black, as played by Ed Harris. The Man in Black (or William, in his younger days) was one of the most skilled and ruthless guests ever to play the game in Westworld. However, new casting information for Season 2 suggests that the show might have found a replacement of sorts.
Deadline reports that actress Katja Herbers, best known for a leading role on Manhattan and a guest spot on The Leftovers would be joining Westworld as a series regular for its sophomore season. According to Deadline, she’ll play Grace, “a seasoned guest in Westworld whose latest visit comes at the park’s darkest hour.”
We don’t know much more than that, but the mention that she’s a seasoned guest suggests that she might be the best player around, now that the Man in Black is gone. It’s unclear who she’ll even get to the park, given everything that went down in the finale. Maybe she was already there, and the show will pick up with her avoiding rampaging hosts. In any case, that “park’s darkest hour” bit certainly sounds ominous.
We might learn more during Westworld’s Q&A at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 22. If not, it could be a while. Westworld Season 2 still does not have a release date.
