Han himself would advise fans not to get too cocky about this news, but the young Han Solo Star Wars standalone movie might have a minimalist, confident, and concise title. If a new rumor is to believed, the film will simply be called Solo.
On Monday night, Woody Harrelson was a guest on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. And though Harrelson is starring in War for the Planet of the Apes — which comes out on Friday — Star Wars fans are also very aware that he’s playing Han’s mentor in the upcoming 2018 standalone Star Wars movie. And even though Colbert was supposed to interview Harrelson about his current projects, he started the interview by grilling Harrelson about the Han Solo movie. “Your character’s name is Beckett! Who is Beckett?! You’re not going anywhere until you tell me something about the movie.”
Then, Colbert pointed out that Harrelson was wearing a shirt in an Instagram picture that said “Solo.” Half-joking (or was he?), Colbert asked if this was the name of the movie. Harrelson said it was the “temporary name” of the movie, “for right now.”
Now, the odds that this stays the actual title of the movie seem a little low. But, if it ends up sticking, it’s a pretty great choice. Conveying the braggadocious nature of Han Solo simply and elegantly, this title — even if it’s temporary — is perfect.
The Han Solo movie — maybe just “Solo” — is set to open May 25, 2018.
