In the latest trailer for the blockbuster adaptation of Stephen King’s epic The Dark Tower, Idris Elba’s Roland Deschain puts his Gunslinger skills on full display, and his rustic brand of Gun-Fu is making the gunplay-focused martial arts cool again.
There’s not a whole lot of new informatio in the trailer compared to the first, but it’s leaning further into presenting this upcoming story as a continuation of the Dark Tower book series. “Everyone who walks with you dies,” the Man in Black says to Roland. His response? “No more.”
This is something of a spoiler for the books, but quite literally, every one of Roland’s many companions that join him on his quest wind up dead — including a main character in the original Gunslinger novel. But The Dark Tower movie is presented an entirely new story where things will change.
As Roland says, “The Tower is all that stands between Light and Darkness.” His eternal nemesis, Matthew McConaughey’s Man in Black — who uses some new kind of fire magic in the trailer — brings their personal war to Earth in the hopes of destroying the titular Dark Tower. It’s up to Roland and his young companion, Jake, to prevent that from happening.
