When Will Smith teams up with an Orc, played by Joel Edgerton (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, The Great Gatsby), in the forthcoming urban fantasy movie Bright, everybody wins. And now, Netflix’s weirdest fantasy mash-up of 2017 has announced it will be hitting San Diego Comic-Con. New Orc-filled footage can’t be far behind.
Though Bright probably won’t have a theatrical release, the film will hit Netflix sometime in December 2017. And while a sci-fi/fantasy epic starring Will Smith might have been something of a cliché in year’s past, Bright has an startling freshness to it that might make it a surprise hit for fans of genre movies that aren’t like other genre movies. The film is directed by “Suicide Squad” Ayer, but maybe DCU haters can overlook that fact. Bright is also directed by Max Landis, so fans of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Chronicle, and Channel Zero should be super pumped.
The new 10-second teaser offers a tense look at Smith and Edgerton’s Orc-Human partnership, which somehow doesn’t look nearly as cheesy as it sounds.
The Bright panel will happen in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 20 at 3:15 p.m. Pacific.
