Why Tyrion Will Sabotage Cersei on 'Game of Thrones' Season 7

Cersei Lannister and her brother Tyrion have always had a contentious relationship on Game of Thrones — and the new Season 7 trailer proves that Tyrion will go all out to sabotage the new queen.

At the end of Game of Thrones Season 6, Cersei Lannister shocked everyone by taking the Iron Throne for herself. Season 7 presents an especially tense situation, since Tyrion is sworn as the Hand of the Queen to Cersei’s rival, Queen Daenerys. Both siblings are in for a rude awakening about each other’s role in the war to come.

The Lannister ancestral home Casterly Rock — which Tyrion once wanted to own himself back in Season 3 — has not appeared on-screen yet. That will change in Season 7, however. The first Season 7 trailer already revealed that it will be the setting of one of the season’s battles, as Daenerys’s Unsullied forces will invade and sack Casterly Rock.

Note the Lannister lion in the courtyard — which signifies that this is the Lannister home — and note the Unsullied forces, who don’t look like they’re dropping in for a friendly visit.

But it was always conceivable that they’d breach the famously impenetrable fortress using Daenerys’s dragons. A shot from the new trailer, however, points to Tyrion as the mastermind.

He was in charge of the Casterly Rock sewers, and Grey Worm is shown wearing his armor in the water. The proof is in: Tyrion is not sitting back and letting Daenerys do the work. He’s taking an active role in sabotaging Cersei, including supplying the intel Daenerys needs to sack his own family home.
