Immediately following the airing of the Attack on Titan Season 2 finale on June 17, a third season for the hit anime was announced, teasing a release of sometime in 2018. It comes as no surprise considering how well-received and widely adored the show is among fans.

In the series, the young soldier Eren Yeager and the remnants of humanity are beset by the constant threat of monstrous humanoid giants known as Titans. After abnormal Titans break the massive Walls protecting mankind when he’s a child, leading to the death of his mother, Eren makes the vow to destroy all Titans. In his first real battle, Eren accidentally discovers that he has the power to turn into a Titan himself, which changes the war forever.

Season 2 saw Eren and other soldiers venturing beyond the safety of the inner Walls to investigate a potential breach, a mission which leads to Eren’s capture at the hands of other Titan Shifters and a massive final confrontation in which Eren discovered that he had the power of the Coordinate, meaning that he can control other Titans.

Here’s an official announcement via Twitter:

Considering the fact that Season 1 concluded in September 2013 and it took all the way until April 2017 before Season 2 began, fans of the show should consider themselves very lucky that the production folks over at IG Port’s Wit Studio are aiming to be a bit more timely this time around.

Expect Attack on Titan Season 3 sometime in 2018.
