'Spider-Man' Star Tom Holland Confirms a Standalone Film Trilogy

'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

Peter Parker has always been a little loose-lipped as the friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man, and it looks like the latest Spidey film’s star, Tom Holland, is no different. In a recent interview, Holland revealed that there are plans in the works for two follow-ups to Spider-Man: Homecoming that would make that film — due out July 7 — the start of a new Spider-Man standalone film trilogy.

In an interview with French cinema blog Allocine, the actor let slip that, “Yeah, there’ll be Spider-Man 2 and 3, it won’t be Homecoming 2 and 3.” It might not be something Marvel and Sony wanted out in the open just yet, but it’s too late now!

“There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man especially to grow in the next two movies,” Holland also said. “[Peter Parker’s] definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies.”

In Homecoming, Peter still has his snazzy suit from Captain America: Civil War, but will revert back to his old DIY outfit after Stark takes the new one away. Stark says in the above trailer, “If you’re nothing without the suit, then you shouldn’t have it.”

After his flashy debut in Civil War, Homecoming will return to Peter’s roots to explore not the origin of his powers, but the origin of his hero’s journey. Holland — and Spidey fans everywhere — are no doubt looking forward to that playing out over the next few films.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will kick things off when it premieres on July 7.
