Little Nova Stars in 'War for the Planet of the Apes' Trailer

by James Grebey

Of all the apes in the Planet of the Apes universe, Caesar seems like he’d be the most human-friendly. After all, he was raised by James Franco back in the first entry in the rebooted series. However, a new trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes shows that the ape leader is hesitant to extend a hand to a human in need given everything that’s happened since he left San Francisco. But, he still has a heart.

The trailer, which hit the web on Thursday morning, is titled “Meeting Nova,” and it features long scenes where Ceasar and his fellow apes first meet the scared, lost little human girl. Nova — who somehow is apparently the same character as the Nova from the original 1968 movie, even though there’s no way that timeline makes sense — is alone and seemingly mute. Caesar doesn’t want to take her in, but his kind orangutan companion, Maurice, insists.

Once they adopt her, though, it looks like she becomes a major ape ally, as she’s seen helping an imprisoned Caesar. She may be a human, but it looks like Nova (who was named after a Chevy, will show that the ape-human war maybe isn’t as black and white as it first appears.

War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on June 19.
